iPad Mini 4 Release Date, Specs & Price: 3 Tablets Out in April? Thinner Profile Expected!

By Staff| Jan 30, 2015

A few months from now, Apple's iPad Mini line could get some cleanup. Recent reports claimed that the iPad Mini and iPad Mini 3 will no longer be available.

According to the Christian Post, rumors say the devices will be discontinued, following the arrival of the iPad Mini 4. The new model was tipped to launch simultaneously with another tablet, the iPad Pro. The latter is also known as the iPad Air Plus.

As you can see, the iPad Mini 2 seems to be out of the picture. That's because the device will reportedly stay, welcoming new members of the Mini family.

Despite the arrival of newer models, Christian Post noted that the iPad Mini 2 has been "selling well" in previous years. This explains why the device is believed to remain. That said, by April 2015, three iPad tablets could be in existence (iPad Mini 2, Mini 4 and Pro).

Meanwhile, the rumored departure of the iPad Mini 3 could be very surprising indeed. Remember that the model launched with the iPad Air 2 back in October 2014, along with the Retina iMacs. But Apple has not confirmed anything yet, so the recent information may best be taken with a pinch of salt.

iPad Mini 4 rumored specs

The iPad Mini 4 is rumored to pack an A8X processor, Bidness Etc reported. According the website, the upcoming iPad is also believed to sport a design much similar to the iPad Air 2.

On the other hand, predecessor iPad Mini 3 housed an A7 chip with 64-bit architecture and M7 motion coprocessor. The device came with a thickness of 7.5 mm, much thicker than the iPad Air 2 which came at 6.1 mm.

Citing information from other sources, KpopStarz reported that the iPad Mini 4 will arrive with 2 GB of RAM. This is also the same spec packed in the iPad Air 2. The outlet went on to tell that the device has been suggested to sport a much thinner design.

That said, it looks like the new iPad will draw more of the iPad Air 2's characteristics. But how thin could it possibly be?

As for the iPad Pro, KpopStarz wrote that the device has been rumored to come with a 12.2-inch screen. The outlet also thought of it as a Microsoft Surface Pro competitor, provided that it becomes "Apple's first tablet designed specifically for work."

No official pricing has been set for the iPad Mini 4. However, the iPad Mini 2, currently starts at $299 (16 GB version).
