NBA Trade Rumors & News: Rajon Rondo to LA Lakers or Boston Celtics?

By Nens Bolilan| Dec 08, 2014

There have been rumors that Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo will be transferring to another NBA team soon and many are speculating that he will transfer to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Celtics Blog discussed that the two teams could be considering a trade after the breakfast meeting of Kobe Bryant and Rondo, though both teams said it was a "purely social event."

The same report noted that despite the absence of talks for Rondo's trade, there have been discussions about the matter months ago but it was not clear which team started the talks.

"Should the teams re-engage in discussions about Rondo, sources indicated Boston likely would ask for at least one first-round draft pick. The Lakers owe their own first-round pick to the Phoenix Suns unless it falls within the top five picks. They also own Houston's first-round pick," a similar ESPN story said.

According to some reports, there may not be a player in the Lakers roster that the Celtics may want but that the top 5 pick would be hard to resist.

The Celtics Blog added that this may be a risk for the Celtics as Rondo is a great help to the team and can be re-signed for a long term if he agrees to it.

For the Lakers, on the other hand, acquiring Rondo could be good news as the team continuously struggles to perform its best in the current NBA season, winning only one of the first 10 games they played.

The International Business Times (IBT) said that with Rondo ending his 5-year deal with the Celtics, the breakfast with Bryant meant that the Lakers star "was looking to lure Rondo out West."

"We just talked about the game, we talked about the league. We talked about good old memories of playing in the series against each other, stuff like that -- different strategies and things they tried to do against us and things we tried to do against them," Bryant was quoted by the IBT as saying.

The Lakers star has openly revealed his admiration on Rondo's skills while the latter claims that he admires Bryant's spirit in the game.

"I love everything about him. Everything. I love his attitude, I love his chippiness, his edge, his intellect, his know-it-allness. All of it. That's what makes championship players," Bryant said of Rondo in the IBT article.

However, it has been reported that the trade between the Celtics and the Lakers may not happen before the deadline scheduled in February as the Lakers do not have other interesting players up for trade aside from their draft picks.

"There isn't much there you're going to give up a lot for," a manager said in the IBT article.
