'Transformers 5' Release Date, Cast & Plot: Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Bruce Willis to Join Film?

Michael Bay may not be the best producer there is in Hollywood, but his "Transformers" films prove to be big hits, and it seems that a fifth film is underway.

According to Bay, there is a possibility that "Age of Extinction" is the beginning of another trilogy. He told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, "It's kind of like a new Transformers. We had three, the first trilogy, and this is going to be the next one... I'm not necessarily sure that I'm doing [the others], but that's what it's meant for."

And it seems that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Bruce Willis are in the running to star in the next film of the franchise. Whatculture.com noted that the 2016 sequel to "Age of Extinction" will have Mark Wahlberg replaced as a lead by the Rock, when Wahlberg said in September that he is not interested in reprising his role.

With Wahlberg gone and original lead Shia LeBeouf not returning to the franchise, Michael Bay is also said to have dropped the helm, which ensures major changes can take place for the next films.

Whatculture also observed that casting the Rock and Willis may just bring in more for the box office. Considering that the Rock proved to be steady in delivering action-packed performances, and Willis is - well, Willis (and Hollywood royalty).

Inquisitr reported that The Rock has been the subject of jokes as far as performance goes - he is added to bring people in the theater, which could only prove true should his casting for Transformers 5 be finalized. The website also noted that the former wrestler has already proven that he can revive any sort of franchise by his mere presence in it. Case in point: "G.I. Joe: Retaliation."

Other reports from the International Business Times also suggested that the presence of the Rock and Willis is set for a crossover between G.I. Joe and Transformers, but that remains to be seen. And while no plot has made serious waves about the newest installment, the presence of a new group of Autobots and Decepticons that included Ultra Magnus, Red Alert, and Cyclonus may just pave way for a "Beast Wars" spinoff.

There is no news yet on who will helm the next "Transformers" films, but according to Variety, Michael Bay will be off the franchise and has signed on to a movie for Paramount Pictures, called "Thirteen Hours: A Firsthand Account Of What Really Happened In Benghazi" based on the book by Mitchell Zuckoff.

What do you think of having The Rock and Willis in the autobot franchise?
