Simona Halep beat No.1 ranked Serena Williams at the WTA Finals on Wednesday, with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

Williams described her performance as "embarrassing, very embarrassing."

''My forehand was off today. 'It's obviously gone on an early vacation. My serve was at best at the 10-and-under division of juniors,'' Williams said in an AP Sports article. The American tennis player broke her 16-match winning streak in the WTA where she is a two-time defending champion.

According to Daily Mail, Halep's shots were just too much for Williams to take that she was not able to cope with the former's gameplay.

"Halep, brought a high level to the court and pounced on Williams' temperamental serve to race to the first set. Williams failed to recover, making 36 unforced errors and was broken five times during a flawless performance by Halep," the report noted.

Spotlight on Simona Halep

For Halep, she won the best match of her life.

''I played unbelievable shots. It means a lot this match. At an important time I played really well, and after today my confidence will be more high,'' Halep was quoted as saying.

The Romanian tennis player won the first set against Williams in just 20 minutes with the latter only being able to score seven points, the Daily Mail observed.

Aside from winning the WTA Finals, Halep is also known to be Eugenie Bouchard's runner-up in the French Open this year. Now that she has defeated Williams, Halep expressed confidence that she can reach the semifinals. ''First I have to forget this day, but it will be hard to forget. I am so happy,'' she told AP Sports.

Semifinals hope still alive

Asked what this loss has taught her, Williams said she is already looking forward to her next meeting with Halep.

"She is going to make me go home, train hard and particularly train for her," she admitted.

Williams is set to face Bouchard next, in a group match in Singapore, for her to advance to the semifinals.

"You know, things are going and I'm still going to come back and I'm going to be better," Williams told The Guardian.

The ball is now in Williams' court. Can she bring back her normal play and focus on her next match to be able to redeem herself from the loss which she herself considered embarrassing? It would be her chance to prove to Halep that she can still make it to the semifinals.
