Seattle Seahawks Trade Percy Harvin to Jets: Possible Reasons for Dump

On Friday night, the Seattle Seahawks made a bold move by trading wide receiver Percy Harvin to the New York Jets for a conditional draft pick.

Business Insider said in a report that the Seahawks only paid a little amount of money to take Harvin to the team last year but noted that the player they got from the Jets with the trade "doesn't come close to that."

Reports initially revealed that the team dumped the wide receiver because of his contract but Business Insider said that the main reason could be the "toxic relationship" of the player and his team.

Former Seahawks player Michael Robinson confirmed recently that there was a brawl between Harvin and teammate, Golden Tate, prior to the start of the Super Bowl in Seattle.

"Something did go on at the Super Bowl that a lot of fans don't know about. There was an altercation in the locker room between Percy Harvin and Golden Tate. ... There was an issue. I physically broke it up, and I was there. You'd have to ask those guys what they were arguing about," Robinson told Business Insider.

According to an earlier report by NBC Sports, Harvin's body badly slammed Tate at the hotel where they are staying coming close to breaking the latter's neck.

Another incident of violence attributed to Harvin was when he reportedly grabbed coach Billy Gonzales by the neck and slumped him on the ground. Also, the former Seattle player had been involved in the heated argument with former coach Brad Chidress, which according to NBC Sports almost ended to a fight between the two.

Business Insider also reported that Russel Wilson argued with Harvin earlier this year after the latter said he had a bad attitude. All these incidents led the people to believe that the wide receiver was not making enough effort to make it work with his team and often clashes with the players he does not seem to like.

With his transfer to the Jets, NBC Sports said that it is not sure if Harvin's career will last even after the 2014 season, noting that his new team may not be able to keep him for next year. It added that the new Jets coach may replace him with a better performing player without behavior issues.

This recent trade poses a challenge to Harvin to improve not on his play but on how he handles matters with the people he works with. This may seem as a minor factor on the sports he is playing but now he has proven that his career may depend largely on it.
