There are many stunning Latina contestants competing in the Miss Universe 2013 pageant who embody the ideals of the Miss Universe organization. The winner will bring her strong beliefs to the Miss Universe role in the hopes of spreading her personal message with the world. One hopeful contestant vying for the crown is Alba Delgado, a sports enthusiast from San Salvador who loves being in the public eye. 

Alba Delgado, 22, hails from San Salvador, El Salvador. She was born on Jan. 6, 1991. She is currently studying public relations and communication, and is specifically interested in the fashion and broadcast industry, according to Miss Universe.com. 

She was crowned Nuestra Belleza El Salvador Universo, or Miss El Salvador Universe in 2013 at the Royal Decameron Salinitas Hotel in Los Cobanos on April 26, 2013.

But she didn't always plan on being a beauty queen; she thought she would become a soccer pro. Growing up in San Salvador, she spent most of her time playing soccer with her five siblings. The sport, which she began playing at the young age of five, taught her discipline, teamwork and responsibility. She is still a huge soccer fan, with her favorite teams being Real Madrid from Spain and Manchester United from the UK.

She went to the Miss Universe El Salvador castings without telling her parents because she was afraid of their reaction; her parents always wanted her to be a soccer player. Now, her parents are very supportive of her beauty pageant goals. 

In addition to playing soccer and studying PR, she loves to sing karaoke, and does it every chance she gets. 

She is very close with her parents, and was influenced by their strong guidance.

"My father's view that you can do anything with perseverance and God's blessing has really influenced the way I live my own life," Delgado said. 

Delgado will compete in the Miss Universe pageant at Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia, which will air on Nov. 9 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
