It was already a rumor that HTC's flagship smartphone, the HTC One, was going to go "senseless" with a stock version of Android. On Thursday, HTC announced that Google was offering a special edition of the device with a "Nexus user experience" and Android 4.2.2, coming out June 26. Now rumors are that HTC is considering giving users who already own a HTC One the freedom to choose their user interface.

In an update to their original story about the upcoming stock Android version of the HTC One by Google, theVerge got "another interesting tidbit" from HTC. The Taiwanese company is currently "examining the best way to support early adopters of the One" who may not favor HTC's sense user interface. Basically, there's a possibility that, not only will Google be releasing a "senseless" stock Android version of the HTC One, but HTC One owners who feel they bought in too early may get an option to update Android and drop Sense as well.

This possible stock Android option would be a good strategy for the company, whose custom user interface has gotten some criticism, and whose early adopters might feel stranded and upset, now that there's an Google Android 4.2.2 HTC One on the way.

The HTC One, announced early this year, was released in March on some carriers, and is coming to T-Mobile nationwide on June 5 and, likely, Verizon on June 6, with Sprint and AT&T likely releasing it in late summer or later. It features a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB RAM. It comes in two versions, with different storage options of 32GB or 64GB. Its primary camera is a 4 megapixel shooter with HTC's "Ultrapixel" sensor technology, which the company claims rivals the higher megapixel cameras of rivals. It comes with a 4.7-inch display and Android 4.1.2 with HTC Sense, at least for now.
