The third installment of the popular Marvel comic franchise "Thor" has been confirmed but no other details have been provided regarding the blockbuster film.

The second film, "Thor: The Dark World" was released in 2013 and it may be a long wait for the next flick. According to entertainment site Enstarz, the world is probably looking at a 2018 release, a 5-year wait given the schedule of "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth. The site noted how Hemsworth, 31, has hinted at a long hiatus in terms of acting for the titular role of the third film.

When the actor was asked about his schedule during Comic-Con, he confirmed he's "got a lot of time. I don't think it's just yet, 'Thor 3.' I think it's a ways away," says the Brit according to the Collider.

News portal Entertainment Wise confirmed earlier that after the success of the second film, a third will definitely be in the pipeline. It goes on to substantiate it's claim by naming "The Dark World" writers Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle to be on board for the next film.

"I am proud of Craig and have enjoyed working with him over these past years," said Kevin Feige, Marvel's head boss in a statement.

"His creative instincts have helped shape ‘Thor' and ‘Thor: The Dark World' at every level of the filmmaking process. The entire team at Marvel is very happy to continue collaborating with Craig as he continues as a screenwriter working with Christopher on the forthcoming chapter of Thor's adventure."

When it comes to the plot of the film, recalling how Loki had disguised himself to be Odin, bets are in for an at-the-end-of-the-world storyline with many linking it to be about Ragnarok. Hemsworth did reveal via ScreenRant a few details a long while back regarding what he knew about "Thor 3":

"I think what's good about this is that each time, with the Avengers, we sort of made it difficult to separate them each time there's some sort of conflict it's like where's the rest of the team? And I liked that Thor has another universe or the universe to sort of take care of and keep him occupied. I think that in the comic book the sort of end of days, Armageddon aspect is probably the direction in which it will all head in. Where it's sort of the end of all things and there's obviously no script or anything when I read the comic books I thought it was an interesting way to go."

The site noted that Ragnarok refers to the end of days of Asgard, an event central to "Thor" comics.
