The new Seventh Street Bridge in Fort Worth will be serving motorists travelling in and out of Forth Worth earlier than expected. The new bridge, which was slated to open by November, will be ready first week of October, a month ahead.

The old Seventh Street Bridge was taken down early in June, forcing motorists to look for alternatives in travelling to and from downtown Fort Worth. Most motorists have detoured to West Lancaster or White Settlement Road due to the bridge closure.

The original Seventh Street Bridge was built in 1913 and was reportedly expanded in 1953 according to Fort Worth's website. The old Seventh Street Bridge was deemed still safe to use by authorities. However, it has shown wear and tear throughout its 100 years of existence. The beams, girders and the deck of the original bridge were reportedly showing deterioration.

The new Seventh Street Bridge will feature the same four traffic lanes though the sidewalk width for the pedestrian lanes has been increased to 10 feet from the previous 4.8 feet.

According to Forth Worth officials, the new bridge costs about $25.9 million. The design was created by the Texas Department of Transportation.

The bridge has been closed down for several months now but officials are saying that the closure will last no longer than 150 days.

"We promised closure of no more than 150 days," said Texas Department of Transportation spokesman Val Lopez in a report by ABC News. "It's going to turn out to be more in the 120-day range."

The shorter completion date of the new Seventh Street Bridge construction can be attributed to the pre-cast arches of the bridge. The 12 arches were constructed off-site to minimize traffic and lane closures.

Officials say that the contractor started the pre-casting work of the 12 arches last year. The contractor will allegedly be receiving a $1 million bonus for getting the job done earlier than expected.
