MMA legend, BJ Penn, has retired but UFC President, Dana White, expressed that he is "happy" with Penn's decision.

In an interview after Penn's announcement, MMA Junkie noted that while fans were sad with the fighter's decision, White "was clearly happy about it."

"B.J. Penn was our jiu-jitsu coach before we even bought the UFC, so I've known this guy forever. He's one of two people who have won two titles in two different weight classes. He built the 155-pound division. He's a legend, he helped build the UFC, and the list goes on and on of what B.J. Penn has done. I've said this a million times," MMA Junkie quoted White as saying.

White also said in the same interview that Penn has a great family and he can't ask for more.

"What more do you want, B.J.? You have nothing left to prove. Fighting is a young man's sport," White added.

Penn announced his retirement after his third-round TKO loss to Frankie Edgar on Sunday, MMA Junkie wrote.

MMA Fighting noted that Penn was emotional when he announced that he was ending his career at the UFC.

"This is the end. I'm thinking to myself, why did you step back into the Octagon after the beating that Rory MacDonald gave you? And the reason is, i really needed to find out, if I didn't make this night happen for myself, I would have always wondered, I would have always went back and forth on whether I should go back in. I needed some closure," he was quoted by MMA Fighting as saying.

Penn revealed that not fighting Edgar would have been his biggest regret.

"I would have always wondered, I would have always kicked myself in the butt and complained and thought I could have did it again. Now I know for sure," explained Penn after his knockout loss.

Penn gained a spot in the Hall of Fame for his 13 successful years in the MMA industry. He won two titles in two weight divisions. He also gained popularity, and the respect of the people in the industry.
