The Mercedes-Benz GLA is coming to North America in summer, confirms Nintendo of America on Twitter.

In a tweet, @NintendoAmerica said "We're planning to release a GLA-Class kart from @Mercedesbenz for #MK8 this summer. Stay tuned for more info!" The tweet also included a photo of the GLA-class ride which has seemingly been made into a one-seater convertible car.

Game Spot notes that Nintendo has tweaked "the spacious, four-door GLA" in order "to accommodate Mario and other kart racing enthusiasts in the Mushroom Kingdom." In so doing, the new ride has become a one-seater Mercedes convertible as depicted in the photo.

The tie-in between Nintendo and Mercedes was first announced in May, recalls Game Rant. At that time, the Wii U maker reportedly announced the Mercedes GLA-class kart as a Nintendo Japan exclusive, says the outlet. "They didn't rule out the possibility of the GLA-class kart coming to North America or Europe, but, at the time, they didn't have anything to say on the matter," Game Rant adds.

According to Game Spot, the tie-in between the car manufacturer and Nintendo "was initially timed to coincide with a new promotional campaign in Japan for the car." In fact, a 30-minute Go GLA! TV commercial featured the silver car in the "Super Mario Bros." game. A real-life 2015 Mercedes GLA from which a real-life Mario steps out of is shown at the end of the clip.

One thing that has struck gamers with the "Mario Kart 8" Mercedes-Benz GLA DLC is the fact that it's free. Based from the comments in the Game Spot report, most gamers are bothered by Nintendo's release of the "out of place" GLA-class kart.

One comment reads, "Who cares if it's free....it just feels wrong." Another says, "I realize it's free and optional...But it just feels so unclean."

"[This] image looks so wrong," reads a comment by hitomo. Another reader replied, "@hitomo I think it would look better and more realistic if it had been an SL-class roadster. But a GLA? Not sure why they chose an SUV."

"Mario Kart 8" was released just last month for Nintendo's Wii U. According to Game Rant, the title was a hit - "selling extremely well in its first few days of release." The outlet adds that it has also become "the fastest selling Wii U title of all time."
