Is Mexican-American television host and actor Mario López going to be the first Latino president of the United States? What started off as Conan O'Brien's joke during the 2013 White House Correspondents Dinner last year may come true. During an interview with HuffPost Voces, López talked about his possible political career in the future.

"I remember [when] Conan O'Brien said that," said Lopez referring the comedian's speech. "I'm very flattered. In fact I like politics and I love staying true to my community and you never know maybe later on it would be something that I would wanna get into."

The actor also joked about what would be his first moves as a President. "I would make tortillas national [laughs]," Lopez told the Huffington Post. "Tortillas would replace bread in every restaurant, that would be my first mission. I would make tortillas an option at restaurants."

At last year's White House Correspondents Dinner, O'Briend talked about the changing American demographics and the heavy influence of Latinos, theHuffington Post reported. The comedian and late-night talk show host even said that in a couple of years from now the next president could be Hispanic, suggesting that López could fit the position.

"The demographics of this country have been rapidly changing over the past two decades, and I look forward to host this event 18 years from now", said O'Brien during his speech. "Then my opening line would be: 'Buenas noches es un honor poder hablar en esta cena de los corresponsales de la Casa Blanca. Sí, especialmente al presidente Mario López. [Good night, it is an honor to be able to speak at this White House Correspondents Dinner. Yes, especially to the President Mario López.]"

Lopez also talked about awaiting his second child with wife Courtney Mazza and how important his Latino heritage is in his home life.

"Well you know my parents are from Culiacán, Mexico so there's history there I love the culture," the Extra star said. "I love the people [of Mexico], I love the food and it's important that my daughter speaks the language with the rest of the family so everyone's taking lessons to stay sharp."

According to the Huffington Post, Latinos who are eligible to vote are expected to double from 23.7 million to about 40 million by 2032. In 2012, Latinos represented 11 percent of the electorate, and by 2032 they will make up 16 percent of eligible voters, HuffPost reported.
