'Gotham' TV Series Release Date, Cast & Trailer: Fun Facts About 'Batman' Prequel

Fox has officially given the go-signal for "Gotham", the Batman prequel series that follows the life of the young Detective James Gordon, who will become Commissioner Gordon. The series centers around the lives of key "Batman" characters, including Bruce Wayne prior to his "Dark Knight" adventures.

The series released a full trailer recently showing scenes that are shaping up to be an interesting story. Below are some of the fast facts you need to know prior to the show airing:

Fact #1 Batman characters featured! 

Showrunner Bruno Heller tells Entertainment Weekly "the Penguin, Riddler, young Catwoman, Alfred. Possibly Harvey Dent. Poison Ivy. Um ... and then there will be others."

Fact #2

Ben McKenzie leads the series as Detective James Gordon. He is known for his role as Ryan Atwood in the concluded young adult series "The OC".

Fact #3 Air Date 

The series will be launched by Fox this fall and launch, and available in the U.S. possibly September or October, writes DigitalSpy UK. More details will be confirmed by the network when it unveils it's 2014-15 schedule Monday, May 12.

Fact #4 Episodes

It's likely to have a 22-episode order but again, more details will be shared on Monday, reports Movie Phone.

Fact #5 Director

DigitalSpy UK reports that Danny Cannon, a British filmmaker leads the Gotham series premiere. Other accomplishments credited to the Brit include TV pilots as "The Tomorrow People", "Nikita" and "Alcatraz".

Fact #6 Other celebrities

Other celebrities slated to appear in the film include the likes of "Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma, David Mazouz as young Bruce Wayne and Camren Bicondova as young Selina Kyle," reports IGN.com.

McKenzie seems to be a great casting choice given his previous character experience on the "OC". He has really nailed the serious, brooding expression this young Gordon will probably need to have.
