At the beginning of this year, Karla Souza was making the rounds on American talk shows to promote the Eugenio Derbez movie "Instructions Not Included."

She explained that she was looking for more projects in the United States, but she won't take any old role. As she told the magazine Reforma, she has been receiving threats for refusing to work on a film that spoke badly of Mexico and another that took advantage of the success of "Los Nobles."

"They threatened me, and told me that it did not suit me to go against this producer," she said. "How dare I and who am I to back out of a project. I hadn't even signed a contract! Just because I am in the United States doesn't mean I'll fold my hands."

She understands how she may be perceived for saying no as a Mexican in a country like the United States. But she knows she has to be picky when it comes to her career.

"I gained many enemies when I said no to those projects," she said. "It was very difficult getting threats, but I know that one has to take risks in their careers."

Souza, who wants to keep representing Mexico in a positive light, was recently at Mexico Fashion Week. The "Nosotros Los Nobles" actress was there to lend her support to designer Alexia Ulibarri. But she's also made some strides as part of Hollywood. In October, she attended People's Ones to Watch party in Los Angeles.
