The Cleveland Indians could reportedly make a late push to sign free agent hurler Ervin Santana, a source close to situation reported on Tuesday.

Roughly a week after former ace pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez inked a deal with the Baltimore Orioles, the Indians are reportedly showing interest in getting his replacement on the mound. Recent reports indicated the Tribe could make a run at the 31-year-old Santana, if an injury to one of their key players happens during Spring Training.

According to Cleveland MLB insider Paul Hoynes, the Indians might not be interested in forfeiting their first-round pick for the opportunity to sign Santana, but they would surely make a gamble on Santana, if he remains available in the market.

"I'd be stunned if they did. They really value the No. 1 pick they would forfeit if they signed Santana. Of course, if the Indians have a key injury in the rotation before the start of the regular season, and Santana is still available, that could change," Haynes wrote.

Santana is considered the remaining big name free-agent pitcher in the market after Jimenez decided to sign a four-year, $50 million contract last week. MLB Trade Rumors reported that Santana has no plan to lower down his asking price of roughly $10 million per season.

"Ervin Santana isn't lowering his asking price as Opening Day inches closer, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Executives from teams with interest in the right-hander tell Heyman that despite the onset of Spring Training, Santana is still seeking something in the range of $50MM over four years -- the same contract signed by Ubaldo Jimenez with the Orioles and Matt Garza with the Brewers, and $1M more than Ricky Nolasco got from the Twins," MLB Trade Rumors reported.

Despite the steep price, Santana is still drawing interest from the Orioles, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies. The Toronto Blue Jays could still make a late play on the hurler as well.
