The Final Fantasy series may finally come to the PC in the future, according to one of the main men in charge of the series for developer Square Enix.

Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori kitase says that Square Enix is strongly considering bringing future games in the series to the PC due to the popularity the platform enjoys.

"...We see potential in it and there are lots of regions and countries where PC is very strong," Kitase stated. "So in terms of our hope of being able to deliver our games to every single country in the world and to as many gamers as possible, yes, we would definitely be interested in pursuing that route in the future," Kitase told Eurogamer.

Square Enix has enjoyed plenty of success with Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn on the PC, but the MMO is a unique case. However, Kitase revealed that the PC ports of classic Final Fantasy games have motivated the company to look into bringing new titles to the system.

"Final Fantasy 7 and 8 are now available on PC and they've been proving quite popular," Kitase said. "It's an early stage for us. We haven't got an awful lot of experience in this field. So when we have more know-how and experience in this market we would be very interested."

Interestingly enough, Square Enix originally began working on the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy on the PC, but a variety of factors prevented early builds from becoming full games on the PC.

"Let's not forget, when we developed the Final Fantasy 13 series, all three titles, at the early stages of development we were working on PC," the producer explained. "Then we had to port it to the consoles. As far as the technology is concerned, it would have been possible for us to make a PC version, but we decided against it for two reasons: we looked at the market situation and we didn't think it would be a good idea, and also it would have involved lots of complex issues like security. So we decided not to do it this time around."

Square Enix is currently working on Final Fantasy 15, but the developer has only confirmed the game for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It may be too late in the development cycle for the game to receive a proper port to the PC, so PC owners may have to wait some time before the series makes it to the platform.
