Amir Khan has been long considered as Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s most likely opponent, but the reigning pound-for-pound king Mayweather is keeping quiet about who he intends to fight—Khan or Marcos Maidana.

If Mayweather decides to face Maidana in his next fight on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Khan said that he will go with his second plan.

In an interview with Fighthype, Khan said that he will still fight in April or in early May to keep himself busy. The British boxing icon said that he would face a quality opponent in hopes of finally landing his dream bout against Mayweather.

"I'll still fight in May regardless of whatever happens. Early May or end of April, I want to fight because I want to keep myself busy, you know. I've been at it for a long time, so I definitely have a date around that time, yeah," he said. "We're going to get a Plan B opponent, hopefully take that fight, and still work our way towards a Mayweather fight."

The 27-year-old Bolton native admitted that he thought his dream bout with Mayweather was already sealed after he signed a fight contract, but the former light welterweight champion hasn't heard anything from the undefeated boxing champion's camp for the past several weeks.

Khan admitted that he started worrying about his chance to land the bout when Mayweather conducted a poll, asking his fans to pick his next opponent. Khan won the poll by a landslide, but he has heard nothing from Mayweather since then.

The British boxing icon said that the uncertainty of the bout is forcing him to look for an alternative, but he is still aiming to face Mayweather at some point in his career.

"I'll be still working towards that one big fight. If we don't get the fight, then we just have to go to Plan B, really, and we have to just kind of stay strong mentally. I mean, everything happens for a reason and maybe it's not the right time, so you just move on and then you just get a new opponent," Khan said.

When asked if he is open to fighting on the May 3 fight card as a co-main event if Mayweather decides to face Maidana, Khan said that he will consider it, as long as the numbers are big enough for him.
