One of the open betas for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn on the PlayStation 4 will allow players to use their characters either from the PC or PlayStation 3 version of the game.

At a San Francisco event on Monday, director of the game Naoki Yoshida announced that the beta program, which will begin April 4, will allow users to import their characters into the new version of the game from other platforms, but the first beta program for the game will not, IGN reported. This first beta, which will run from Feb. 22 to March 3, will instead force users to create brand new characters that will be deleted once the first beta is over.

These beta programs will be open to the public, so those looking for a chance to play the game early should sign up for the chance to see the next gen version of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. There is a third way to explore the game early: early access privileges. Beginning on April 11, users who bought the Collector's Edition of the game will be able to play the game in full before it is officially released on April 14. Not only will users be able to jump into the game early, but the fat Chocobo mount and the wind-up Moogle pet will be available to use as bonus content found only in the Collector's Edition of the game.

Another way PlayStation 4 owners can test out Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is to first play it on the PlayStation 3. Users who buy that version of the game are able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version of the game for free, so dedicated players can begin a character's journey through the game on the PlayStation 3 and then import that character into the newest version of the game.

Square Enix has ridden a vindicating wave of success with Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn after the first version of the game was considered by many to be one of the worst games ever at launch. The game was so bad that Square Enix decided to take the MMO offline and spent years redeveloping it into the game it is today.
