Steve Nash allegedly told his friends this season will be his last, but the Los Angeles Lakers point guard denied Tuesday that he is already considering calling it quits.

In an interview with ESPN Los Angeles, Nash refuted reports about his plans to retire after the season, saying that he is still looking forward to playing next season despite being hobbled by different injuries at the moment.

"Not yet," Nash said when asked if he was considering retirement. "We'll see. But I still enjoy being back there on the court so much that this [nerve irritation] is nothing compared to that feeling of being one of the guys and being on the team and trying to win games. So, it's still well worth it to me."

Nash recently returned from a long layoff caused by nerve irritation in his back, but the 40-year-old point guard is still not fully healthy. Nash left the game early in the Lakers' 92-86 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday and was also limited by an ailing hamstring in their 96-79 blowout loss to the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.

The 40-year-old point guard has only played in 10 games this season, posting an average of 7.6 points and 4.7 assists per game.

Nash recently showed that he can still produce if he is healthy after scoring 19 points to go along with five assists in their 112-98 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.

Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni, who had successful seasons with Nash during their time together in Phoenix, admitted that the 18-year veteran is nowhere near the playing shape that helped him bag two consecutive NBA MVP awards in 2005 and 2006.

But when asked if he believes Nash should retire, D'Antoni said he thinks that it is still too early to talk about Nash leaving the game behind.

"I think it's too early for him," D'Antoni said. "He'll have to decide that. He'll feel it in his heart and his head and I'm sure he's getting good advice. Right now we're just trying to get to the next game and play well."

Nash is still under contract with the Lakers until next season. The eight-time NBA All-Star is set to earn $9.7 million next season, but the Lakers could consider releasing Nash next season for salary cap relief.
