Double Helix Games, the developer behind the free-to-play Xbox One game Killer Instinct, has announced on its forums that it will not only add new content to the game but will also put into place a system that will lock players into virtual jail for disconnecting one too many times from matches in an attempt to avoid losing.

The new system, which will be released whenever the patch becomes available in the game, will prevent players from trying to avoid a loss in their fight record by rage quitting. After a player has had 10 ranked matches, the jail system will go into place. After these 10 matches, if a user's disconnect rate goes above 15 percent they will go to jail. This so-called "jail" consists only of other people who frequently disconnect from the game. When in jail a user's profile icon will change to a special jail marker, and players will have to spend 24 hours in the jail portion of Killer Instinct. After 24 hours, users will then be able to play with the general public once again, even if their disconnect rate is still above 15 percent. However, if a player disconnects from a game again and their percentage is still above 15 percent, then they will be going back to jail. The player will have an additional 24 hours added to their time in jail for each time they end up there, going up to five days in a row. Each time a person disconnects and ends up in jail then they will take that match as a loss.

Other games besides Killer Instinct have begun isolating cheaters and those that try to manipulate the system to avoid losing. Grand Theft Auto Online puts players who get complained about into special sections of the game with other people accused of being cheaters so that the general population of the game does not have to worry about them.

Besides these new anti-cheating measures, Killer Instinct's newest patch will add some fresh content to the game. Players who have purchased the Ultra Edition of the game or the Combo Breaker pack will receive the new character Spinal along with his accessory set. Meld will also greet players when they sign into the game and deliver the latest news concerning Killer Instinct to them. And as usual the new patch will provide a variety of balance and gameplay fixes to improve the overall quality of Killer Instinct.
