Floyd Mayweather Jr. looks set to face Amir Khan on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach believes that the undefeated Mayweather will finally absorb his first defeat.

In an interview with BoxingScene, Roach, who previously trained Khan before they parted ways almost two years ago, said that the former British champion has the right style to defeat Mayweather Jr.

Roach pointed out that Khan, who is now under the guidance of trainer Virgil Hunter, has the speed advantage that could put the reigning pound-for-pound king in trouble as long as he is careful with his plan of attack.

"I've always said Amir has the right style to beat Floyd if he fights correctly and doesn't stay in the pocket too long," Roach said. "I always thought he could beat him with his speed. I think he's faster than Mayweather and that's what it takes to beat him. Floyd might have his hands full on the night."

Aside from his former fighter, Roach is still aching to see his prized fighter Manny Pacquiao go toe-to-toe with the flamboyant Mayweather. While the chances are still very slim at this point, the veteran trainer admitted that he and Pacquiao are still hoping to face the 36-year-old Mayweather in a potential record-setting showdown.

The 53-year-old boxing trainer said, however, that the ball is in Mayweather's court. Roach insisted that they have already given in to the previous demands of the Grand Rapids-born boxer, including a mandatory drug test and 60-40 fight purse split, but Mayweather continues to show no interest in facing Pacquiao.

"Of course he does. It's the biggest fight in the world for him," said Roach when asked if Pacquiao is still open to the idea of facing the reigning WBC and WBA middleweight champion. "We all want that fight and Manny especially. Manny's offered a 60-40 split, a blood test, no problems whatever Mayweather wants. We've agreed to anything and he just keeps ignoring us."

With the Mayweather super fight still out of reach, Pacquiao and Roach will have to focus on preparing for their upcoming rematch with Timothy Bradley on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
