The latest "Chicago Fire" featured a struggling Casey, an intense rooftop rescue and some good news for Molly's.

In "Out With a Bang," Dawson (Monica Raymund) catches fellow academy student Jones cheating on a test, but Jones explains that she has dyslexia. Later, when Jones saves Dawson when she panics during an exercise, it seems like the two will be friends. But Dawson becomes sour when Severide (Taylor Kinney) reveals that Jones received a higher grade than her on the test.

At the station, Shay (Lauren German) learns that the man whose suicide she witnessed left his entire trust to her, which is a total worth of $40,000. She wants to give the money to the man's brother, but it's discovered that the brother has been diverting his deceased brother's military pension to himself, so Shay keeps the money.

Meanwhile, the team swoops in to stop an apartment fire that was triggered by a propane grill. While there, Boden (Eamonn Walker) discovers that the entire apartment complex lacks heat, so the tenants have to rig their apartments to stay warm during the frigid Chicago winters. Boden goes to the landlord to tell him to fix the situation. One of the tenants, named Donna, goes to the station to thank Boden in person. Boden then goes to her apartment to fix a cabinet, and the two end up having dinner together, signaling the beginning of a romance.

Casey (Jesse Spencer), who is still struggling after his accident, tells Severide that he is suffering memory loss. He still hasn't told Dawson about the lingering injury, but it surfaces later when he has an angry outburst during dinner at a fancy restaurant. Even though Dawson calls him out on his obvious injury, he continues to tell her that he's fine.

Later, Otis (Yuri Sardarov) aks Severide's permission to date his sister, and Severide agrees.

Meanwhile, Shay and her new partner, Rafferty (Christine Evangelista), go to the local hospital after an escalator rescue. It turns out that Rafferty's fiancee died of Hodgkin's disease, which explains her sullen attitude. They bond over their shared tragedies, and the two hug.

Another alarm leads the squad to save a photographer who is stuck in a smokestack on a rooftop. Mills (Charlie Barnett) is able to save him, which was his first save as a member of the squad.

In the end, the gang decides to throw one last party for Molly's, as the restaurant loan was denied. Then at the party, Shay makes a surprise announcement: she's giving her recently acquired money to Molly's.

On the next episode, "Tonight's the Night," "When a drunk driver knocks down a transformer, the entire neighborhood is left without power on a frigid Chicago night."

Watch the promo for "Tonight's the Night," which airs Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
