Destiny won't hit stores until Sept. 9, but thanks to some freshly released screenshots from original Halo developer Bungie, we now have a good idea of what to expect from the open-world space adventure game.

Posted on the official PlayStation Tumblr, the screenshots show a mix of gameplay images and more cinematic screenshots from Destiny. Some of these shots show the variety of environments that will be included in Destiny. One image is of a picture showing three human characters on the moon, with the Earth seen in the background. Another gameplay photo shows the first-person perspective that players will use throughout the game, and shows the tunnels found within the moon that the alien enemies of the game have dug. While many of the screenshots show rather bleak landscapes, which may be par for the course, considering the game allows users to travel to desolate planets such as Mars, one screenshot shows a forest, indicating that some of the environments found in Destiny will be more varied than some might think.

A variety of aliens are seen in this preview. The most common enemy seen is the robotic enemies seen in the trailers for the game. These robotic enemies are vaguely humanoid, but come with different designs that may indicate what sort of weaponry they will have on them. One screenshot shows one player and another character teaming up to face a giant enemy that appears to be charging at the pair.

These screenshots show off why gamers are so excited for Destiny and the amount of work that Bungie is putting into the game. Destiny will allow players to traverse the solar system. Players will be able to choose a character class and explore huge open-world environments either in a group or by themselves. Bungie is attempting to change how multiplayer works in shooter game by allowing different groups of players to come together in one game during shared events. However, individuals and groups can choose to bypass these other groups and continue their solo game rather than work together with others.

Bungie will be available Sept. 9 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
