Apple Inc.'s latest iPhones have dominated Japan's smartphone ranks.

According to BCN, which tracked consumer electronic device sales in Japan, iPhones accounted for 8 of the top 10 smartphones sold in the country. The eight iPhones varied on model, internal storage capacity, and mobile carriers, but nonetheless, it is all good news for Apple.

The top Apple smartphone was the 32GB iPhone 5s from mobile carrier SoftBank. The 32GB iPhone 5s also placed second but from mobile carrier Au.

The iPhone 5c improved its presence on the Japanese smartphone sales chart by BCN. The 16GB iPhone 5c from Au previously ranked eighth place but improved to third.

The iPhone 5s placed fourth, particularly the 16GB model from SoftBank. The iPhone 5c's 16GB from SoftBank was behind at fifth place.

Mobile carrier NTT DoCoMo encountered a decline with the 32GB iPhone 5s, which previously ranked second but fell to sixth in December.

Au's 16GB iPhone 5s continued the Apple smartphone streak at seventh place.

The Sony Xperia Z1 broke the iPhone streak by making its debut at eighth place.

The iPhone, however, made a comeback with the 16GB iPhone 5c model courtesy of NTT DoCoMo, which specifically ranked 30th in November.

"While there's no doubt that sales of the iPhone 5S and 5C have been strong, resurgent performances from LG, Sony and Nokia have made making year on year share gains increasingly challenging for Apple," said Kantar Worldpanel's Strategic Insight Director Dominic Sunnebo.

Kantar Worldpanel noted the strong sales of the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s may be a result of "high levels of customer satisfaction" despite concerns the iPhone 5c would "damage" Apple's appeal.
