CW president Mark Pedowitz has announced during the Television Critic Association's winter press tour that a crossover event between two of its hit supernatural series "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" will be taking place soon.

While it will be a major affair for fans of both shows, the network boss warned that the crossover event won't be as big as what they do for its popular DC Comics series adaptations "Arrow" and "Flash."

"They have to make sense [story-wise]. If they don't make sense story-wise, don't do it, don't force it -- the audience can tell," Pedowitz said as quoted by Entertainment Weekly.

As it turns out, executive producer Julie Plec has always wanted to do a "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" crossover for a while. Figuring out how to carry it out organically and in a way that it would make sense for the two worlds to collide was the challenge.

The programs will be fused by Stefan, who is being hunted by something magical. The younger Salvatore brother will find refuge in New Orleans, specifically in St. James Infirmary, where magic basically does not work.

His trip to New Orleans won't be complete without batting heads with Klaus Mikaelson, who most certainly won't be in the dark when something fishy happens in his territory. This should make the crossover event action-packed and fun.

Plec referred to Klaus and Stefan in the highly-anticipated "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" crossover as "Bourbon buddies," as quoted by TV Line, and although the two may seem to start things out on the wrong foot, Stefan will end up being a key player to one of Klaus's dealings, which turns out to be directly connected to Stefan as well.

As for Caroline's involvement in the crossover, Plec was coy about it, although she still teased that Stefan's girlfriend's presence will "dramatize" the installment.

"It's a nice two-episode set of Vampire Diaries-Originals cohabitation. It's going to be good. I'm excited about it," Plec said of the much-awaited installment, which will serve as episode 14 of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7.

On the other hand, Pedowitz also spoke about the scheduling mix-up that put the shows on Fridays -- a move that gave fans the impression that the shows will be axed soon. But the CW assures that this is not the case.

"The move is not to exile [the shows]. It's a move to strengthen Friday night," he said via TV Line.
