A leaked image and an eyewitness statement reveal that Facebook is currently developing an official Messenger-like app for Apple's Macbook.

A report from Tech Crunch revealed an image of what the outlet described as "a Facebook employee using the Facebook Messenger For Mac."

According to the outlet, having a dedicated app for Facebook messaging is definitely a great treat for Macbook users, since it would save them the stress of "getting buried in one of many web browser tabs that users have to switch to so they can text friends."

This development, however, has yet to be confirmed, particularly after Facebook declined to give any details or comments to the outlet, saying they "don't comment on rumor or speculation."

Of course, this does not necessarily mean that the rumor is not correct, particularly after past speculations turned out to be true, despite news aggregates receiving the same "boiler plate response."

In fact, Tech Crunch is confident that their sources are on the right track, particularly because of this analysis: "The more people that chat on Facebook, the more they get locked into the company's family of apps and features, including Facebook's News Feed where it earns money on ads."

Also, Techno Buffalo notes that it would not be the first time that the official Messenger app has been made for personal computers, citing 2012's Messenger for Windows, which was immediately shut down because Facebook couldn't support it any longer.

The Facebook official statement reads: "We're sorry, but we can no longer support Facebook Messenger for Windows, and it will stop working on March 3, 2014."

Despite this, the social media giant has pursued more improvements for iOS and Android-based versions of the app, and even strongly encouraged Facebook users to make use of it.

And then there is the possibility of incorporating third-party options to the rumored Macbook FB Messenger app, which are already available and enjoyed by many.

Based on the photo, Tech Crunch pondered what particular features would be available in the Macbook version of Messenger.

"While it's tough to see in this grainy close up, the official client the Facebook employee was working on includes a navigation tab bar in the bottom left. It matches the tab bar options in official Messenger for iOS mobile app, including Recent, Groups, People, and Settings," the report stated.

Of course, this should all be taken with a grain of salt, considering that the company has declined to confirm or deny any of it.
