Turkish player Arda Turan and Spanish footballer Aleix Vidal made their debut in FC Barcelona's 4-1 win versus Espanyol for the Copa del Rey first leg on Wednesday.

The FC Barcelona website said Turan was part of the starting lineup of the team, and he played for 67 minutes before Ivan Rakitic replaced him. Vidal, on the other hand, was benched during the beginning of the match, but was eventually brought in during the 68th minute in lieu of Dani Alves.

It was noted that both played a part in the win of the Lionel Messi-led team. The Argentine football star made two goals, which increased the chances of FC Barcelona to make it to the quarterfinals of the competition.

The Guardian detailed that Espanyol led the game with a goal from Felipe Caicedo, but Messi was able to answer the opponent a few minutes later.

He also reportedly made a free kick before half-time, and then set up another for teammate Gerard Pique to make it 3-1. The fourth goal came from Neymar after it was set up by the Argentine player.

The win has increased the chances of FC Barcelona in the league and will continue with Turan and Vidal on their roster.

Turan, who transferred from Atletico Madrid, and Vidal, who came from Sevilla, were signed last summer, but they had to wait until January to play for FC Barcelona, since the team had a ban for breaching FIFA rules in signing underage players, as per SkySports.

The same report noted that Turan is a great addition to the team because of his "tireless work rate and defensive discipline." It noted that he will supplement the efforts of the three big players Neymar, Luis Suarez and Messi.

Journalist Guillem Balagué told SkySports that Turan is the best player to replace one of these three big players when they are injured "or when the game needs controlling."

"He can also, of course, play as a midfielder, but less often. They will see him as a forward or a fourth midfielder, not one of the three in central midfield," Balague added.

As for Vidal, the expert said he can be a future replacement for right-back Alves.

He added that both players are known for their great attitude when training for the games.

On the other hand, ESPN noted that the two can also easily adapt to various attacking positions, giving the team options when it needs to rotate its squad.
