A throwback photo of new Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane with singer Shakira has gone viral on social media.

La Prensa reported that when Zinedine Zidane took over Rafa Benitez's job, he trended on social media with some netizens even digging an old photo of him, as a football player then, and Shakira, the wife of Barcelona player Gerard Pique.

According to La Republica, the photo of Zidane and Shakira was taken in May 2005, when the singer was touring Spain. She would reportedly go to Bernabeu to watch the games of Atletico Madrid.

When the game finished, the "Hips Don't Lie" singer posed with the then Galacticos players, including Zidane, David Beckham, Roberto Carlos and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Peru.com noted that the photo generated all kinds of comments on social media, since Pique's Barcelona is Real Madrid's nemesis in the sport. But it claimed that Shakira has always been a fan of Real Madrid, even before she and the Barcelona defender became an item.

It was added in a BBC report that Zidane replaced Benitez, who was removed from his post after just seven months of leadership.

Benitez had one final game last Sunday which ended in a 2-2 draw versus Valencia.

The 43-year-old Zidane has promised to do good in his new job.

"I am going to put my heart and soul into this job so that everything works out well," he told BBC.

But he also mentioned in a separate BBC report that he should not be compared with Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola. "You shouldn't make comparisons with me and Guardiola. He has achieved incredible things," Zidane added.

He claimed that the Bayern boss has already established a name from himself, noting that he is also doing great at his job. The new Real Madrid coach instead promised to do his best at his role. "I will not compare myself with anyone. I never did it as a player and I won't do it now," he noted.

But prior to his appointment, former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon mentioned in a Daily Mail report that Zidane was the second option after Jose Mourinho turned down the team's offer.

He explained that Real Madrid first thought it was a "risky decision" to take Zidane now, but he claimed that he has high hopes for the new coach.

"I think they have chosen Zidane because he was here and he is the only one at this moment who can take the job," added Calderon.
