iOS vs. Android Market Share in Australia: BlackBerry, Microsoft Sees Mobile OS Gains; Apple, Google Slip, Says Kantar

Microsoft's Windows Phone platform encountered the highest percentage growth in the latest smartphone operating system market share figures in Australia.

According to Kantar Worldpanel, Windows Phone saw a percentage growth of 2.7 percent when comparing the three months ending in November 2013 and the same period in 2012. Despite the increase, the Microsoft smartphone operating system finished in third place.

The Windows Phone platform accounted for 6.9 percent of the Australian smartphone operating system market share, which is an increase from the 4.2 percent it had represented during the three months ending in November 2012.

Google Android easily maintained first place despite losing the most percentage points in Kantar Worldpanel's latest figures. Android accounted for 55.1 percent of the smartphone operating system market share. The figure for the Google smartphone operating system is down by 2.9 percentage points from the 58 percent it has garnered by November 2012.

Apple's iOS sustained its second place rank. The iOS platform saw a minor drop in its market share figures by 0.5 percentage points. As a result, the Apple smartphone platform accounted for 35 percent of the Australian smartphone operating system market share.

BlackBerry held fourth place again. BlackBerry, unlike Apple and Google, saw an increase with its smartphone operating system by 0.7 percentage points. BlackBerry finished the three months ending in November 2013 with 1.4 percent of the market share.
