Pokémon X and Y Update: Pokémon Video Game and Trading Card Game Winter Regional Championships Starts This Weekend

The Pokémon Video Game and Trading Card Game Winter Regional Championships have arrived and they're set to kick off this weekend, Jan. 11.

The latest Pokémon Video Game and Trading Card Game Winter Regional Championships will mark the first time gamers can participate and will battle using the newest games from the sixth generation, "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" for the Nintendo 3DS.

The Pokémon Video Game and Trading Card Game Winter Regional Championships will take place on the weekends from Jan. 11 to Jan. 26 but certain dates will be specific for the latest Nintendo 3DS games.

Starting Jan. 11 and Jan. 12, Pokémon fans can play the trading card games from Doswell, Va. The Jan. 12 date, however, will feature the video game championships.

On Jan. 18 and Jan. 19, fans can attend either the Long Beach, Calif.; Salem, Oreg.; or St. Charles, Mo. locations for the video games.

Finally, from Orlando, Fla., Pokémon fans can attend the last weekend of The Pokémon Video Game and Trading Card Game Winter Regional Championships from Jan. 25 to Jan. 26.

The Pokémon Video Game and Trading Card Game Winter Regional Championships are open to the public. Fans wanting to battle fellow gamers must bring their own copy of "Pokémon X" or "Pokémon Y" as well as their own Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 2DS system. Fans interested in the trading card game competition must bring their own trading card game deck recognized by the franchise.

The winners of the trading card game and video game tournaments will receive booster packs, trophies, and stipends from a pool of approximately $200,000 in travel allowances. The travel allowances could be used to attend the Pokémon U.S. National Championships Travel Award or even an invitation to the 2014 Pokémon World Championships in Washington, D.C. this August.
