The Sacramento Kings are reportedly setting their sights on Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson, who will become a free agent after next season, a league insider disclosed on Monday.

The Kings continue to add talents to their roster at all costs. After trading for Derrick Williams and Rudy Gay, the Kings along with the Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to be the active team on the trading front as the Feb. 20 trade deadline approaches.

The Cavaliers and Kings have been among the most aggressive teams in pursuit of trades, league sources say. On the heels of acquiring Rudy Gay from Toronto, the Kings are "swinging for the fences" on the trade market, one rival executive told Ben Berger of CBS Sports.

However, Berger stressed the real target of Kings general manager Pete D'Alessandro will not be available until the summer of 2015. Thompson, the 11th overall pick in 2011 NBA Draft, has already become one of most prolific shooters in the league in only his third season.

A New King Coming?

Many basketball followers believe the Kings will still make some trades to improve their roster as they look to make a push towards the postseason. Recent reports showed the Kings' interest in Denver Nuggets veteran guard Andre Miller and Phoenix Suns playmaker Goran Dragic.

Still, the Kings front office appears determined to bring the sweet-shooting guard to Sacramento despite the lucrative price that comes with him. Thompson, who averaged 19.5 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc this season, is already drawing interest from several teams, including big market contenders.

However, with the all-out backing of the new ownership, the Kings are all set to make a big splash in the free agency market over the next two to three seasons.

"Restricted or not, Thompson would not come cheaply and it's unknown if the Kings as currently constructed would have enough to get a deal done. Thus, it's possible D'Alessandro may be thinking of Thompson as a potential free agent acquisition/sign and trade in a few years," via Sports Illustrated Fan Sided.
