The rumored showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Amir Khan hasn't been finalized yet, but that hasn't stopped Khan's trainer from expressing confidence in the Brit's chances of beating the undefeated American.

In an interview with Hustle Boss, Khan's trainer, Virgil Hunter, admitted that he has yet to make a fight plan against Mayweather since there is still no confirmation whether the reigning pound-for-pound king will choose the Bolton native for his next bout on May 3 in Las Vegas.

However, Hunter, who trained Khan in his last two fights after the former champion parted ways with Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, said that the speed of the 27-year-old will pose a serious threat to Mayweather.

"At this point I don't have a plan to beat Floyd and I may not even have a plan for him leading up to the fight," Hunter said. "Right now the fight hasn't been confirmed so my mind is not on it. Once the fight has been confirmed, quite naturally we would have to use Amir's assets to make noise in the fight.  If assets are very uncanny and his speed can throw anybody off, including Floyd."

Hunter pointed out that he has high respect to Mayweather, saying that the 36-year-old champion is the best boxer in the world today. But he insisted that they will not fight the reigning WBC and WBA light middleweight champion just for the sake of collecting a huge pay check in May.

"I have respect for Floyd Mayweather. I see him as being the No. 1 fighter in the world, but I want to win," Hunter told The Ring. "I'm coming into this fight to win, and I know that I have the horse that can run that race. It's going to be a fight that's going to really surprise the boxing world."

Mayweather is expected to name his opponent by mid-to-late January, and Khan is considered as the front-runner in the "Money" sweepstakes. Marcos Maidana is also on Mayweather's radar, while the super fight against Manny Pacquiao is still out of the picture.

Khan, the former WBC light welterweight champion, recently said that he has already signed his contract to face Mayweather, but the Grand Rapids native has yet to ink the fight deal.
