Sergio Martinez expressed confidence that he will emerge victorious against Miguel Cotto if the two sides agree to face each other on June 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Cotto already declared his intention to face Martinez, but the proposed fight is not yet finalized. Martinez took a swipe at Cotto, saying that the Puerto Rican should stop making so many demands just because he is the challenger to the Argentine's WBC middleweight title, while also declaring that Cotto will not last five or six rounds.

"He should never forget that I'm the champion," Martinez said in a Boxingscene interview. "He has a lot of demands, but I'm the champion. I'll say it, I don't think that he'll last five rounds."

Martinez insisted that he is more than willing to fight Cotto, but he pointed out that the former light middleweight champion is showing signs of reluctance about fight him. Sources said that Cotto wants an edge in the fight purse despite being the challenger, insisting that he is more famous than Martinez.

"I would like to fight Cotto, but he is showing signs that he doesn't want to [fight], by asking for complicated conditions and he does not respect boxing history. I'm ready to knock Cotto out in five or six rounds and I know I will. He cannot resist me. Disrespecting me is a very unfortunate thing. He should not forget that I'm the champion," Martinez said.

In a separate interview, Martinez revealed that he was previously irked by Cotto's arrogance and that was the reason why he wants to square off with the Puerto Rican.

The 38-year-old native of Buenos Aires told The Boxing Voice that he was snubbed by Cotto in a television studio in 2008 and was disappointed with the way Cotto treated the staff there.

"It began in 2008. It was February 12th. I went to greet him at a television studio and he would not even turn his head towards me to acknowledge me," Martinez said. "He did to me what he does to the whole world, but I am angrier about something else. When Cotto went to Mexican television studio he mistreated the people that work there and since that moment I have wanted to put a beating on him."
