"Grey's Anatomy" fans are in for a tearful season 12 as the show's makers release a trailer with a promise that "everything has changed."

Avid viewers of the drama series have already proven countless times that it would not be a genuine "Grey's Anatomy" season without plenty of tears.

Now, the recently released trailer of the show proves it one more time as the show kicks off without the fan-favorite character Dr. Derek Shepherd, lovingly known as "Dr. McDreamy" played by Patrick Dempsey who died towards the end of season 11 after being hit by a wayward truck.

But as always, Us Weekly notes, the show must go on for the rest of the medical experts at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital lead by surgeon extraordinaire Meredith Grey portrayed by Ellen Pompeo.

"You can stop counting the seconds, it's almost here," Daily Mail UK quotes the "bordering-on parody voiceover" that opens trailer for the upcoming new season.

The 20-second clip, which was mashed up with what the outlet described as an "irritatingly upbeat soundtrack," shows Dr. Grey promising that "everything has changed" months after her husband's death.

In the short clip, the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital are shown in an action-packed new season where some of the lead characters are faced with some exciting new cases.

Dr. Grey who just woke up to a brand new day, is shown running down a toy-littered hallway only to find her new roommate, Jo Wilson played by Camilla Luddington), creating a hole the wall with a sledgehammer.

Her half-sister Maggie, played by Kelly McCreary, was shown in another scene punching an unidentified blonde woman in what looks like a room in the hospital.

Quite notably, the absence of Dempsey's character seemed to have changed a lot not only for the show but the entire Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

According to the Daily Mail, Dempsey's character was killed off after the actor and "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes clashed.

However, the outlet did not elaborate on the issue and continued to explain how Dr. Shepherd's wife had obviously gotten over his death quite rapidly.

Not only that, the death of Dempsey's character seemed to have very little impact on the show and the lead character itself, with Ellen Pompeo telling the Entertainment Weekly: "While Derek has always been an important person to Meredith, he never defined her. Cristina Yang [Sandra Oh] said it perfectly, that Meredith is the sun and I think this is going to be the year that she is going to realize that."
