The Miami Heat outlasted the San Antonio Spurs in their epic seven-game battle with a 95-88 win to bag the 2013 NBA Championship at the American Airlines Arena on Thursday.

Securing Game 7 of the Finals, in what was one of the hardest fought series in the NBA, the Heat goes down in history as only the fifth franchise in the league to win two consecutive championships.

The series was anything but lackluster: highlight reels in every possession, dunks and blocks in every side of the court, beaming and screaming fans in every arena -- sure, this Finals series was a killer.

Game 7 didn't start as a sure Miami-win as the two teams took turns in hitting and missing their shots, taking over the lead from start up until the dying minutes of the fourth. But in the end, the Heat relied heavily on the heroics of two-time NBA Season MVP and Finals MVP LeBron James who posted a double-double in the game with 37 points, including five 3-pointers, and 12 rebounds.

"I work on my game a lot throughout the off-season," James told the media in the after game conference, reports ESPN. "I put a lot of work into it and to be able to come out here and [have] the results happen out on the floor is the ultimate. The ultimate. I'm at a loss for words."

The Spurs, on the other hand, failed to seal its fifth trophy. Leading the series at 3-2 coming into Game 6, the team led by double digits and was just a few inches away from another Larry O'Brien, only to crumble in the last seconds of the fourth quarter and finally give in to the Heat in OT.

In Game 7, the Spurs were having a good run, running closely beside Miami in points. But after a few turnovers in the last quarter the team fell short.

"Today, we played an OK game. They just made more shots than us. LeBron got hot. Shane [Battier], too," Manu Ginobili, who had 18 points, said. "Those things can happen. But being so close and feeling that you are about to grab that trophy, and seeing it vanish is very hard."

Aside from Manu, three other players posted double digit points: Tony Parker had 10 of his own, while Kawhi Leonard had 19 and 16 rebounds and Tim Duncan had 24 points and 12 boards.

On the other side of the fence, LeBron's efforts were assisted by Dwayne Wade's 23 points and 10 rebs, Mario Chalmers ' 14 points and Shane Battier's 18 in a 6-for-8 3-point output.
