Google's Android 5.1.1 Lollipop updates is finally on its way to select Samsung, Nexus, and Sony mobile devices. The upgrade comes with tweaks and new features sure to provide improved performance.

Samsung Galaxy S5

T-Mobile has utilized Android 5.1.1 to Samsung's Galaxy S5, Phone Arena reported. The handset is said to be the only smartphone from the tech giant carrying the Android build.

Aside from the new build, the OS update also comes with a fix that protects the device from the Stagefright exploit, which sends dangerous MMS to your phone that doesn't even need to be opened in order to damage your camera, microphone, and personal data, Phone Arena added. The exploit has the ability to infect 95% of Android devices.

The Android 5.1.1 update can be sent via OTA. It can also be obtained through download and installation via Samsung Kies, the news outlet noted.

Nexus 5

The Android 5.1.1 update for the Nexus 5 also comes with a fix for the Stagefright vulnerability. The security upgrade against the exploit was first announced by Google in July and was only 10MB in size, but it is expected to bring significant protection, Gotta Be Mobile reported.

According to the news outlet, it's pretty common to have apps performing badly right after a software update, but the author of the article claimed that the Android 5.1.1 update for the Nexus 5 doesn't seem to have any major performance problems once installed.

Sony Xperia Z3

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is also rolling out to Sony's Xperia Z3.

The exact official date hasn't been announced yet, but insiders from the corporation said that Google's upcoming OS update will arrive in Xperia devices before fall, just before Android M rolls out, Venture Capital Post reported.

PTCRB in the U.S. is said to have certified the latest Android Lollipop version for the Xperia Z3 with build number 23.A.0.546, the news outlet noted. This further empowers the idea that Android 5.1.1 is on its way.

For those waiting for the official firmware update, some custom ROM developers are already readying their own releases, particularly for the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, and Z3 Tablet Compact, Venture Capital Post listed.

Resurrection Remix, one of the most popular mobile custom ROM developer community, also rolled out an Android 5.1.1 update for Samsung's Galaxy Note 4, International Business Times reported.

Last month, it was also announced that all original Xperia Z, Xperia Z1 series, and Xperia Z Ultra devices will run using Android Lollipop 5.1.1, Android Geeks reported. OnePlus One is also getting the Android 5.1.1 build LVY48C upgrade from Sonic developers team's SOKP ROM, a separate report from International Business Times noted.
