Fox has a knack of making musical shows.

After Ryan Murphy's "Glee", the network decided to go for a musical drama in "Empire", which fast became a hit under the guidance of its creator, Lee Daniels.

Because of its success, Fox Network decided that it can't hurt to add another musical drama in their list, and this time, it's going to be called "Star".

Before you ask, Fox Entertainment Co-Chairman and CEO Dana Walden already made it clear via the New York Daily News that it will not be a spinoff or a sequel to "Empire," although it does deal with the same genre in the music industry.

The outlet reported that "Star" is set in Atlanta and follows the story of a three-member girl group looking to catch a break in the business.

Elements that, according to Walden are based from Daniels's own experiences. She said, "There's a lot from Lee's own life that's baked into the DNA of this project. We're excited about it."

The Los Angeles Times reported that Fox has a big reason for being in good terms with Daniels, as "Empire" became a smash success with an average of 17 million views on average every week.

Walden said, "'Empire' has sent a shock wave of enthusiasm through our company."

She also added that the show represented "a shot in the arm for broadcast."

It's also a good time for Fox to up its ante in their programs, considering that the network is struggling, with its once-popular "American Idol" reality show seeing a huge decline in ratings during the last few seasons.

This lead the network to announce that it's 15th run, ending in 2016, will be the last.

Walden shared, "We're going to have a lot of opportunity on our schedule. Our entire development slate is ramping up towards not having 'American Idol.'"

A pilot order does not in any way guarantee a series, according to the Wall Street Journal.

However, due ti Daniels's success with "Empire" - the most watched show last season - it will come as no surprise should "Star" will go down the same road.

Fox is planning on going full speed ahead. Besides "Star", it also plans on bringing back "Prison Break," the cult drama that aired on the network in 2005 to 2009.

No cast or air date has been reported regarding "Star" however, Walden already said that with the same contemporary genre, crossover episodes and references are possible. "They certainly could intersect."
