When Vogue Magazine suggested that "Paper Towns" and "Suicide Squad" actress Cara Delevigne's bisexuality could be a phase, the 22-year-old supermodel decided to set the record straight.

She told The New York Times on Thursday, "my sexuality is not a phase. I am who I am."

As the newspaper reported, Delevigne has been very open in discussing her own bisexuality, and even defended her stance on the same-sex marriage debate.

However, when Vogue's cover article on the young actress led to an online petition to protest on her behalf, and although she admitted that the protest was flattering, she also said she saw "nothing malicious" in the article.

The line that particularly grabbed attention read, "Her parents seem to think girls are just a phase for Cara, and they may be correct."

The woman who started the petition on Care2, Julie Rodriguez, said, "The idea that queer women only form relationships with other women as a result of childhood trauma is a harmful (and false) stereotype that lesbian and bisexual women have been combating for decades."

She also questioned the greenlight on the article, accusing Vogue of being dismissive and demeaning in the matter.

Rodriguez pointed out that the magazine should have "taken this opportunity to combat negative stereotypes, not reinforce them."

As for Delevigne, she openly spoke to the New York Times about her relationship with musician Annie Clark, who goes by the name St. Vincent.

She shared how her relationship has been helping her with her acting career, saying, "If you're in love with someone, you can be with them like no one else is in the room. Acting is like that. It's like taking that feeling and turning it on so nothing else matters when you're looking in another actor's face."

Not that she was always comfortable with being in love with women when she was younger. She told Vogue, "It took me a long time to accept the idea, until I first fell in love with a girl at 20 and recognized that I had to accept it."

For now, she's happy with St. Vincent. Although she has been linked with both men and women in the past (The Daily Mail mentioned Michelle Rodriguez, Harry Styles, and Jack O'Connor), take it from the "Paper Towns" lead: she is who she is, and your approval isn't needed.

Catch Cara Delevigne's new film, "Paper Towns," will be in theaters on July 24.  She is also set to appear as The Enchantress on "Suicide Squad", premiering on August 5, 2016.
