When Ariana Grande's doughnut-licking controversy made waves around the internet, the Riverside County health officials started an investigation on the doughnut shop when the surveillance video showed the star licking a tray of doughnuts left exposed on a counter.

According to TIME Magazine, the person at the counter of the doughnut shop that time, Mayra Solis, said that Grande did not buy any of the doughnuts that she licked, describing the diva as "really rude."

The video showed Grande and a man at Wolfee Donuts in Lake Elsinore on Saturday. The star then "maliciously" licked the doughnuts left on the display shelf.

The Los Angeles Times said that the shop owner filed a report and showed the video of the star and her friend, but was told by Sheriff's Deputy Michael Vasquez that they don't believe a crime was committed and won't be investigating the star.

Instead, the Riverside County's Department of Environmental Health is investigating the doughnut shop for food tampering, with department spokeswoman saying that health inspectors will be looking into the shop for history of leaving their baked goods on display, and if they had existing policies to prevent access to the doughnuts.

California health laws require restaurants to protect all food from public contact.

The doughnut shop manager, Ricky Marin, said that the doughnuts sold out that same night, so there is a possibility that someone ate the doughnuts that Grande and her friend licked. The state health department have not receive complaints from people who ate the contaminated doughnuts.

Grande apologized for her transgression, although according to Forbes, she did not do it properly.

In a statement from US Weekly, Grande said that her words were taken out of context, clearing it up by saying that she is "extremely proud to be an American".

However, instead of stopping there, she tried to turn her antics into a manifesto for concern on health crisis. Instead of sticking with a simple apology she went on to explain that her rant on Americans being disgusting is actually her concern for the increasing rate of childhood obesity.

She stated, "The fact that the United States has one of the highest child obesity rate in the world frustrates me. We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies. We need to demand more from our food industry."

After the doughnut-liking video went viral, it was announced that Grande will no longer be headlining the MLB All-Star Game concert this weekend, according to the Washington Post. While many speculated that this was due to the controversy involving the 22-year-old star, Grande has said that she needs emergency wisdom teeth surgery.
