The latest software update for the Nintendo 3DS is now available.

The update adds several new features to the handheld system that help streamline the platform as well as features seen on the Nintendo Wii U console.

The 3DS system software version 7.0.0 will unify the 3DS eShop with the Wii U's Nintendo Network ID, according to Gamespot. This means that players will have one Nintendo Network ID across both consoles, and players will be able to combine their eShop account balances and wish lists together into one cross-platform account. This will be a huge boost to players who own both consoles and are sick of managing two separate accounts for products made by one video game manufacturer. No doubt frustrated fans of Nintendo will be happy that the new software update allows for this merger.

In addition to this new feature, the Miiverse will be added to the Nintendo 3DS as well. The feature allows users to join together in communities and discuss their favorite games. In addition, it allows Nintendo to give players new information about games. For example, the creator of the new Super Smash Bros. game updates his account with new characters and screenshots for the game through the Miiverse as well as the game's official website.

Pokémon X and Y, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf are just some of the games that will be getting community pages on the Miiverse. Best of all, players will be able to access the Miiverse without closing their 3DS games, so if they need help with something or get a message from a friend they do not need to interrupt their games. Nintendo is also working on a mobile version of Miiverse as an app for smartphones similar to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One apps for mobile devices that allow a player to access their profile on the go.

The other big feature added to this new software update is the ability to have unlimited 3Ds system transfers. Previously, the feature only allowed for five of these transfers, but now users will be able to use system transfers as many times as they want.

These new features should help Nintendo both make the 3DS easier to use and generate appeal for the Wii U, as now users of the much more popular 3DS may feel more comfortable buying the struggling home console now that the features between the two are more similar.
