Jennifer Lopez's controversial performance at Rabat, Morrocco's Mawazine Music Festival has prompted calls for the resignation of the country's communication minister.

The 45-year-old entertainer's concert, which was described by the ruling Justice and Development Party or JDP as "unacceptable" and "against the law," has spurred calls for Minister of Communication Mustapha Khalfi to resign from his position, BBC reported.

According to the news outlet, Khalfi has rejected the people's demands for his resignation. The musical event was transmitted on the 2M public TV network with a short delay.

El Khalfi previously said that he has reached out to the TV network and asked its ethics committee to examine the moral aspects of the concert, Fox News Latino wrote. The politician didn't criticize Lopez directly, but he pointed a finger on the TV network's move of going against broadcasting law, Al Arabiya wrote.

Abdessamad Al-Idrissi, another official of the JDP, also reacted negatively to the Mawazine festival, saying that the event was "shameful" and disrespectful of the values of the Moroccan people and the nation, Fox News Latino added.

Local media have also condemned Lopez's "suggestive poses" as well as her risqué outfits in her performance, CNN noted. Many have been wondering about whether Lopez will adhere to the sensitivities of Morocco's culture before her performance at the Mawazine. Granted, the mother-of-two's numbers were a little subdued, but it still featured elements from her past shows, which included scandalous costumes and provocative poses, Fox News Latino pointed out.

The "On the Floor" singer proved to be a major attraction at the Mawazine. CNN noted that the Latina beauty performed in front of 160,000 concertgoers at the festival.

Pharrell Williams' performance in the event, on the other hand, received more positive reactions than Lopez's. Mawazine will continue on until June 6 and will feature other musical artists such as Sean Paul, Avicii, Placebo, Akon, Sting, Usher, and Maroon 5, Al Arabiya noted.

J. Lo On 'Shades of Blue'

NBC's new cop drama, "Shades of Blue," will see Lopez portraying the role of Harlee Santos, a corrupt policewoman who becomes a federal informant, PEOPLE reported. Lopez's character has a daughter who "doesn't let her get so lost in the world that she can't ever find her way back to something real and good," according to the news outlet.

The singer-actress stars alongside Ray Liotta and Drea de Matteo, PEOPLE added. In its entirety, "Shades of Blue" is a show that tackles what is right and wrong, and what lengths do people go to for their loved ones.

"Shades of Blue" is expected to debut as a mid-season entry for the 2015-16 TV season.
