Eva Mendes seldom posts photos of herself on Instagram, but just recently, the actress veered away from her usual custom and shared her first ever selfie on the social media site. The twist? The snapshot is for a good cause.

On Wednesday, Mendes posted a selfie wearing a t-shirt that reads, "Hope and prayers for Andrew Wilson."

The photo was captioned: "This is my first selfie and it's for an amazing cause! Thank you all so much for helping support Andrew Wilson and his family. Please, please donate - any bit helps! I'm going to sign this tshirt and give it away to one person who makes a donation within the next 48 hours. Click the link in my bio to donate. Together let's help this family get their son the proper treatment that he needs."

Andrew Wilson is an 18-month-old toddler suffering from neuroblastoma cancer, Fox News Latino reported. Mendes, 41, has also shared the child's photo on her Instagram page recently in an effort to raise money for Wilson's cancer treatment.

The accompanying caption of Wilson's picture reads: "This little guy, Andrew Wilson Wratten, is full of smiles, a ball of energy and VERY special to me. He has been undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma cancer. His family has spent the last year going through every parent's worst nightmare as they watch their little boy endure grueling treatment and they need our help. Please consider making a donation. Click the link in my bio for more info. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you in advance for your support of this precious little boy and his family."

According to Fox News Latino, cancer patients hold a special place in Mendes' heart. Her brother, Juan Carlos, is also battling the disease. The star of "The Place Beyond the Pines" talked about her sibling during an appearance at a Stand Up To Cancer event last January, which was presented by the Entertainment Industry Foundation, Daily Mail noted. Mendes was in tears as she was discussing her brother's cancer treatment.

Mendes has a 9-month-old daughter named Esmeralda Amada with partner Ryan Gosling. In an interview with Access Hollywood, she said that her Mother's Day celebration wasn't entirely focused on herself, but on her mother, Eva Perez Suarez. According to the actress, her mom "had a really hard year" once her brother was diagnosed with cancer.

Aside from balancing family life and her acting career, Mendes also demonstrates her business skills by working on her latest clothing collection for New York & Company. Her first collection for the clothing brand was first released in 2013, a separate report from Daily Mail noted.
