Indiana Pacers forward and former New York Knicks player Chris Copeland and his girlfriend were stabbed outside a club in Chelsea on Wednesday night, police reports revealed.

NBC New York said the basketball player sustained stab wounds on his left elbow and abdomen while his girlfriend Katrine Saltara was stabbed thrice in her arm, chest and buttocks. The report said the couple just left the 1OAK club on West 17th Street when the stabbing happened.

The duo were reportedly arguing outside the club when a woman walked up to them and tried to stop their discussion. Then a man, identified as 22-year-old Shevoy Bleary-Murdock, approached them and also tried to join the verbal tussle.

Sources of New York Daily News said that Bleary-Murdock was "nosy, sort of eavesdropping on the conversation." The gesture prompted Copeland to argue with the man before the latter pulled out a knife and stabbed the couple. The attacker also accidentally slashed his friend Catherine Somani in the stomach.

A TMZ video showed Copeland with his back against a wall with Saltara who tried to stop him from talking a few times. Saltara then shouted "We were both stabbed! We have been attacked out of nowhere. ... We are scared for our lives!"

Copeland and Saltara were taken to the Bellevue Hospital and have been declared in stable condition while Somani received treatment at Lenox Hill Hospital where she was immediately released.

New York Daily News added that Copeland's driver grabbed the suspect and turned him over to the police. He has been taken into custody pending the investigation of the case.

Copeland was reportedly in Manhattan for the Wednesday game between the Pacers and the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

Meanwhile, Atlanta Hawks players, Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha, were also arrested by the police as they were accused of disorderly conduct.

According to New York Daily News, the two "refused to move when police tried to set up a crime scene" that involved Copeland.

TMZ added that the two were told six times to clear the scene but they decided to "move a couple of feet away but refuse to clear the area."

According to NBC Sports, Sefolosha and Antic have released a statement saying they will contest the charges against them.

"As members of the Atlanta Hawks, we hold ourselves to a high standard and take our roles as professionals very seriously. We will contest these charges and look forward to communicating the facts of the situation at the appropriate time. We apologize to our respective families, teammates, and the Hawks organization for any negative attention this incident has brought upon them. We are unable to provide further comment as this is an ongoing legal matter," the statement read.
