Most mothers feel reluctant to step back and let their children try new things, especially when they enter the adolescent stage. Victoria Beckham is one of them.

To help his wife through this transition period, Victoria's husband, former soccer star David Beckham, had to escort their son on his first date. Unfortunately for Brooklyn, who The Daily Mail notes is now 16 years old, having a superstar dad does not exempt him from getting embarrassed by a parent, especially because his stories are shared for the entire world to hear.

On "The Late Late Show with James Corden", David shared the funny story of the first time Brooklyn went out on a date, telling the host that when his son asked if he can take a girl out at 14 and a half on Valentines Day, his wife was not too happy about it. Victoria eventually allowed Brooklyn on one condition: David had to accompany them.

David shared, "So we took him to a small sushi restaurant and he sat at the sushi bar and I sat about five tables back." He then added, "By the way, my daughter is four years old. When she gets to that age, I will be closer than that!"

It's not the only time that the Beckhams treated their son like any other teenager, either. The 16-year-old, who is aspiring to be a footballer like his famous father, also had to get his own job for pocket money, much like any other kid his age. Beckham shared with Corden, "A couple of years ago, you know what kids are like, they want new sneakers, they want new soccer boots. It came to the point where he turned 14, 14 and a half, and I thought 'If you want something, then go and work and you've got your own money'. It got to the stage where I was like, 'Okay, if you wanna buy some new stuff, or new boots or new trainers, then if you're working for them then you can afford them yourself'."

Brooklyn, at that age, wasn't too fond of the idea, and he watched from the audience as his father continued on telling Corden, "Much to his dismay, we packed him off to the French cafe and he works there every Saturday and Sunday and gets his own pocket money."

It wasn't too long ago that Brooklyn was just a little tyke, and now it looks like he's starting to grow up and aiming to be like his dad. Do you think the Beckhams are doing a good job at raising their kids, or should they cut them some slack?
