Although the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s are a little over two months old, Apple Inc. is reportedly already investing money in the iPhone 6.

According to the Mirror, Apple has spent $578 million to "speed up" the development of the sixth-generation iPhone. The report noted the Cupertino-based company is utilizing its resources to develop a "special type" of glass for the iPhone 6's display.

"Experts predict that Apple will use sapphire glass for their next screen," reported The Mirror's Alex Wynick. "This glass is more expensive and trickier to produce than the Corning Gorilla Glass Apple currently uses."

The idea of Apple using a sapphire glass is not new for the company as the glass is utilized for the Touch ID fingerprint sensor and rear-facing camera cover on the iPhone 5s

The alleged $578 million Apple invested for the sapphire glass is reportedly to develop furnaces required to meet high volumes for the new display.

Meanwhile, Apple may be ramping up production of the iPhone 5s while cutting down orders of the iPhone 5c.

According to CTech, Apple reportedly cut iPhone 5c production by 75 percent with the manufacturer Pegatron. It was alleged Pegatron was ordered to produce 320,000 units of the iPhone 5c but now has to make 80,000 units. Foxconn's Zhenzhou factory is reportedly producing approximately 50,000 units per week.

What do you think of the sapphire glass plans for the iPhone 6? Or what should Apple invest for the next iPhone?
