The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox are reportedly pushing hard to land Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Matt Kemp via trade, a reliable league source disclosed this week.

The two rival AL East teams have expressed their interest in trading for a potentially productive hitter in Kemp, who is coming off another injury-marred season.

According to sources, both the Yankees and Red Sox have joined division rivals the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles and the Seattle Mariners on the list of teams vying for the do-it-all slugger.

The Boston Globe recently reported about the Yankees' interest on Kemp. In fact, New York general manager Brian Cashman already inquired about the availability of the Dodgers slugger this offseason.

With Yasiel Puig, Carl Crawford and Andre Ethier all expected to fight for a starting role, Kemp is seen like the odd man out mainly because of questions on his ability to stay healthy.

An ESPN report suggested a blockbuster trade between the Yankees and the Dodgers, which will see Kemp playing for the Pinstripes in exchange for former CY Young Award winner CC Sabathia.

"The Los Angeles Dodgers have a crowded outfield, and likely have to trade one of Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier or Carl Crawford due to the emergence of Yasiel Puig (and top prospect Joc Pederson isn't far behind)," the report stated.

Kemp batted .270 with six homers and 33 RBIs in 73 games last season for the Dodgers. However, Kemp's high trade value is driven by his past performance prior to his injuries. In 2011, Kemp hit .324 with 39 homers, 126 RBIs and 40 stolen bases, putting him second behind Ryan Braun for the NL MVP. Acquiring a healthy Kemp would give the Yankees another weapon and perhaps insurance, should free agents Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano sign with another team.

Meanwhile, Sabathia has been the Yankees' ace hurler these past few seasons, but his noticeable decline on the mound make him more susceptible to trades than ever. The Dodgers' potential acquisition of Sabathia would help them further solidify their pitching rotation, which already boasts two-time CY Young Winner Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke and Dan Haren.

However, the Red Sox could also make a solid offer to the Dodgers in exchange for Kemp, given their vaunted farm prospects and ability to absorb big contracts.
