Actor Raúl Castillo has revealed that he takes pleasure in maintaining a mysterious persona online. In an interview with Celebrity Talking Tech, the "Looking" star stated that he has kept his Facebook page private, and intends to keep it that way.

"As an actor, to talk about the process kind of demystifies it. I like to let the work speak for itself," Castillo said, who now prefers to connect with his fans via Instagram instead of Facebook, USA Today reported.

According to the news outlet, Castillo originally set his Facebook account public but stopped when it got "taken over by fans," USA Today wrote. Since then, he opted to use the photo sharing website as a way to immerse himself in the social media world. The actor sees Instagram as a more convenient way to connect with people on the Internet because he doesn't have to "spend time composing posts" and it's "a simple image and headline."

Castillo portrays Richie Donado Ventura in HBO's gay-themed series "Looking" as Jonathan Groff's Patrick's love interest, USA Today noted. The show's focus on gay themes often showcases Castillo in "pretty risqué" scenes, as Castillo put it, but he insisted that it's all purely professional.

"I'm on the show, so I know what I got myself into," the actor said, as reported by the news outlet. "It makes me glad my mom's not on social media."

"Looking" tackles the LGBT and Latino communities head on, and Castillo thinks that the show's direction sets it apart from its predecessors which also focused on the same issues, such as "Queer as Folk," "The L Word," "Grey's Anatomy," and "Modern Family."

"I think the gay community is underrepresented," the Mexican-American actor told The Hollywood Reporter. "People are starving for stories, and that elicits so many different reactions. And 'Looking' elicits so many reactions because of that. There's a real need for stories that represent the LGBT community because there aren't enough, and we need more. 'Looking' can't fill in all the voids, but we do a good job of telling some stories."

He added, "Our representation is more frank and sincere. 'Looking' isn't trying to do anything outside of itself."

When asked why people should watch the show, Castillo stated that "Looking" is "authentic," "real," and strives to "portray real human stories," The Hollywood Reporter quoted him as saying. These qualities push the audience to respond to the series and appreciate its "frank approach to storytelling."

"HBO takes risks on shows, and they've really gotten behind the show in an incredible way," the actor further explained to the news outlet. "That's allowed us to tell some really great stories that wouldn't be told because people don't tend to take those kinds of risks in the television and film world."
