Reports have it that HTC could unveil its first smartwatch, along with the One M9, at the Mobile World Congress, the Telegraph wrote.

In an earlier dialogue, HTC's Peter Chou told the outlet, "In terms of wearable I think it will be very different from a consumer electronics kind of approach. If people take that kind of approach I think it will be a mistake."

Could it be the Apple Watch's biggest rival?

Currently dubbed as "Petra," the wearable is expected to have a 1.8-inch circular panel. It is believed to run HTC's own custom software.

Citing information from @upleaks, Android Headlines took note of the device's alleged specs, which include a 320 x 160 POLED display, ST Micro STM32L151 chip, 72-hour battery life, POGO pin charging and IP57 certification for water and dust resistance.

Interestingly, the HTC Petra is rumored to weigh only 23 grams, Pocket-lint noted. It is unclear whether this measurement includes the strap (and the kind of material it's bound to use), but if we are to recall weights of possible rivals such as the Moto 360 and Samsung Gear, Forbes says they're within 55 to 60g (1.94 to 2.3 ounces).

The highly-anticipated Apple Watch is likewise expected to weigh around the same bracket. However, the brand's Edition collection, which fuses gold, may only have a variable weight at this point. The entire watch's heaviness depends on a combination of factors, but getting back to Petra, the HTC device certainly appears light.

Nevertheless, the standard Apple Watch could weigh between 60 to 80 grams, giannopoulos.net predicts. According to the blog, this is 3-4 times that of the average fitness tracker.

As reported by 9to5Mac, Apple intends for its watch to provide 2.5 to 4 hours of active application. Fully charged, the device is expected to run for 19 hours of mixed (active and passive) use, Stuff said.

The HTC Petra is touted to arrive in three sizes: small, medium and large, and in four different color options. As told by Pocket-lint, expected combinations are teal / lime or black / blue-grey.

In terms of pricing, Android Headlines is convinced that the device retails between $250 to $300. Reportedly, the smartwatch will be able to work with iOS and Android devices, though the specific models remain unknown at present.

Do you look forward to seeing HTC's Petra smartwatch? How will it fare against the Apple Watch? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section.
