After signing free agent Brian McCann to a five-year deal worth $85 million on Saturday, the New York Yankees are reportedly setting their sights on Los Angeles Dodgers centerfielder Matt Kemp.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported that the Yankees are looking to trade for Kemp and they have already talked to the Dodgers to gauge their interest in a potential trade.

Kemp is a dispensable asset for the Dodgers because they still have Carl Crawford, Andre Ethier, and Yasiel Puig, who are all capable of starting for the club next MLB season.

However, the Yankees should expect stiff competition on the trade market because other teams, including the Boston Red Sox, are also pushing for a Kemp trade. The Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, and the Texas Rangers also inquired about the availability of the 29-year-old centerfielder.

"Several teams, including the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Mariners, Yankees, and Rangers, have inquired. If healthy, and that's a big if after two injury-filled seasons, Kemp, a right-handed hitter, could be lineup protection for David Ortiz. There's a lot left on his deal, but the Dodgers could eat some of the money," Cafardo said.

Although Kemp has been slowed down by injuries in the past few seasons, the Dodgers are expected to have a high asking price and the Yankees probably don't have the assets to convince LA to trade Kemp. But according to Dave Cameron of ESPN, a straight-swap of Kemp for CC Sabathia is possible.

"The Los Angeles Dodgers have a crowded outfield, and likely have to trade one of Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier or Carl Crawford due to the emergence of Yasiel Puig (and top prospect Joc Pederson isn't far behind). They reportedly are in the market for another starting pitcher, but don't want to part with a draft pick to sign one of the better starters on the market. By swapping Kemp for Sabathia, they could kill two birds with one stone," Cameron said.

Aside from Kemp, the Yankees are also expected to aggressively pursue Carlos Beltran, who is reportedly the club's top free agent target, followed by outfielders Shin-Soo Choo, Nelson Cruz, and Jacoby Elisbury.
