It's only the first quarter of the year, and yet, it seems that there are plenty of news in the gaming world.

After companies announced the games to be released this month, Netflix has predicted the 4K-friendly versions of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as reported by Forbes.

At the CES 2015 last month, Netflix CPO Neil Hunt promised that a hardware revision for PS4 will include the upgraded 4K video capability.

IGN notes that Netflix did clarify that Hunt believes that the respective companies will do a two-year refresh of their consoles, and at some point during which, they will enable the 4K video playback.

However, Forbes pointed out that if Netflix predictions of the 4K capable consoles will come true, the upgrade will only affect video streaming as it looks to remain exclusively to the domain of PC-owners. The magazine approached both companies about the possibility of releasing 4K consoles, and they responded similarly.

Microsoft says, "We remain committed to bringing leading entertainment features and services to the living room. Beyond that, we have nothing to share at this time."

The same went for Sony, as the company said, "Support for high-resolution 4K output for still images and movie content is in consideration, but there are no further details to share at this time."

Game Rant reported that if Sony and Microsoft are really preparing for their consoles to upgrade this fall, the launch will probably be at a large event, like the E3, or at separate events hosted by each of the companies, which they also happen to do every year. It is most likely that definite updates of the console upgrades will be released, and not a minute before then (except, of course, if you count rumors and leaks, then maybe reports could come in earlier).

The website also noted that different redesigns will eventually happen, like slim versions and such, but while everyone is waiting for that upgrade, Microsoft one-upped Sony over the holidays as they cut back the price of their units to $350 from the original $499. The promotional price also came back in mid-January, according to Techie News, and it seems that it will be staying that way for a while.

Aside from the discounts, Microsoft is also holding a Trade-In for Xbox 360 and Sony PS3s, which can get you a new Xbox One for only $249.

Are you excited for the new 4k capable consoles, or are you buying the promotional-priced Xbox instead?
